Online help for Research.gov can be accessed by selecting the Help link on the top of any screen within Research.gov. To access a 508 compliant version of the help click here.
You can Search the Research.gov Help System to quickly locate the help topic that you need. You can also find relevant help topics through the Table of Contents or keyword Index on the left side of this screen.

On March 18, 2013, NSF transitioned all project reporting from FastLane to Research.gov. This means that PIs/Co-PIs will now use Research.gov to meet all NSF project reporting requirements, including submission of final, annual and interim project reports and the Project Outcomes Report.
Participants Section: Research.gov may not automatically supply all required participant information. Please edit each participant’s information and provide the remaining required data. Required data is marked by an asterisk.
Products Section: Thomson Web of Science may not provide all required information, such as volume or date; therefore, you may need to visit each publication to ensure that all required information has been populated. Required data is marked by an asterisk.
Project Reports are not Cumulative: In accordance with NSF policy, all project reports, including final project reports, are NOT cumulative and should only cover the most recent reporting period. Your final project report only needs to cover the period since submittal of your last annual project report.

There are three ways to get the precise help you need in Research.gov Help System:
1. In the Search box (Figure 1), type the action you need help for.

2. Click the Go button (Figure 1). The list of help topics covering that type of activity appears in the column below the Search box (Figure 2).

3. Click on a help topic heading (Figure 2) to see the topic contents displayed on the right side of the screen.
The Table of Contents contains a hierarchy of the activities for each major group of functions.
1. Click on a book (Figure 3) to see the help topics in the folder. The topics of the book display.

Keywords are listed in the Index in alphabetical order.
