Looking for new applications and you want to learn organic chemistry? An interactive Web/App-based educational tool is now available from Chemistry By Design (CByD), a new, educational website developed by Jon T. Njardarson's group at the University of Arizona.
Users browse hundreds of published pharmaceutical and natural product synthetic sequences, but more importantly, test their knowledge of organic chemistry by determining the product, precursor or reagents used in thousands of steps contained within these important sequences.
CByD is a visually appealing, easy-to-navigate helpful resource for undergraduate students, graduate students and professionals alike. The site uses the powerful graphical language of organic chemistry to engage and educate users. By following the formatting instructions, anyone is welcome to submit a published sequence of their choice to the database. All contributors' names are added to an online acknowledgement list.
Popular with users, the site continues to receive visits from organic chemistry followers from across the U.S. and the world. In its first seven months online, CByD received more than 120,000 visitors and its free apps--for Android, iPhone and iPad--were downloaded more than 30,000 times. Professors have also used the site to supplement their graduate-level courses.
