How to Register for an NSF ID

The National Science Foundation (NSF) ID is a unique numerical identifier assigned to users by the NSF through a registration process. You will need an NSF ID to work on proposal and award-related activities.

Confirm you don't have an NSF Account

  • Look Up your NSF ID by accessing the NSF ID Lookup page.
  • Email addresses cannot be associated with more than one NSF ID. If you forgot your password to an established NSF account, you may reset it at the forgot my password page.
  • If you are moving to a new organization, please update your existing account information.

If you don't have an NSF Account:

I Need Roles

To work on a National Science Foundation (NSF) proposal and award activities via NSF systems, a user must have a role at an organization.

Once you request a role, your organization’s administrator will receive the request electronically to approve or disapprove it. For additional information go to the About Account Management page.

I Still Need Help
