To submit a nomination to the National Science Board (NSB), please complete the form below. There are essentially three parts to this form; Nominator Contact Information, Nominee Attributes, and the Nomination Files upload section.

Nominator Contact Information is necessary in the event that the NSB administrator needs further information about the nominee.

Nominee Attributes are used to aid in the review process by helping the NSB administrator categorize and sort nominees by attribute.

Lastly, three files are requested  to complete your nomination submission:

      1. A nominating letter,
      2. A biography of the candidate, and
      3. The candidate's curriculum vitae (CV) without publications.

NOTE: When entering the Text Confirmation at the bottom of the page, please be aware that entry should only be lowercase letters, and NOT include spaces, numbers, or capital letters.

Regions are defined as follows:

  • Midwest - ND, SD, KS, MN, IA, MO, IL, WI, IN, OH, MI
  • Northeast - MD, PA, NY, VT, ME, MD, DE, NJ, CT, RI, MA, NH
  • Southeast - AR, LA, MS, AL, GA, FL, SC, NC, VA, DC, WV, KY, TN
  • Southwest - AZ, NM, TX, OK
  • West - WA, MT, OR, ID, WY, CO, UT, NV, CA, AK, HI
  • Territories - GU, MP, AS, PR, VI

If the nominee has more than one discipline, select the discipline that best exemplifies the strengths of the candidate as related to service on the National Science Board. This information will be used internally to aid in the evaluation of nominees by Discipline.

Provide the nominee's Sub-Discipline, which corresponds to the previously selected Discipline.

Nomination Files

In order to nominate a candidate for the NSB, there are three key components that comprise the nomination submission:

  1. A nominating letter,
  2. A biography of the candidate, and
  3. The candidate's curriculum vitae without publications.

These files must be uploaded and the requested information completed, prior to selecting the Submit Nomination button at the bottom of this form.

The nominating letter (or recommendation letter) should highlight the nominee's qualifications as a candidate for membership on the NSB. Specifically, the letter should describe the candidate's experiences and distinguished achievement.

The biography is typically a 1-2 page narrative summarizing the nominee's life, highlighting key facts including: educational degrees, professional experiences, appointments, and other professional accomplishments.

The curriculum vitae (CV) is a succinct outline of the nominee's professional accomplishments. This typically includes the nominee's current affiliation and contact information; educational degrees and certifications; appointments; teaching experience; honors and other recognitions; awards and fellowships; grants; recent professional activities; research activities; and professional memberships. It is not necessary to include a full list of publications.

The information requested within the application materials is solicited under the authority of the National Science Foundation Act of 1950, as amended. It will be used in connection with the selection of qualified applicants and may be disclosed to qualified reviewers and staff assistants and to other government agencies as part of the review process. Biographical and background information from publicly available sources may also be used for this purpose. See Systems of Records, NSF-12, "Fellowships and Other Awards," 63 Federal Register 265 (January 5, 1998). Submission of the information is voluntary; however, failure to provide full and complete information may reduce the possibility of recommendation for appointment.
