Power Systems Engineering Research Center

Research Focus & Anticipated Benefits

The Power Systems Engineering Research Center, an NSF Industry-University Cooperative Research Center (I/UCRC), addresses key challenges to creating a modern electric energy infrastructure that enables a low-carbon economy. Its research focuses on power markets, power systems, and transmission and distribution technologies.

The center's university and industry partners seek to empower people to engineer a future electric energy system that serves society with efficient, secure, resilient, adaptable, and economical infrastructure. Another goal is to develop knowledgeable decision-makers on critical energy policy issues.

Education & Outreach

The undergraduate and graduate programs at the Power Systems Engineering Research Center's collaborating universities produce engineers capable of making substantive contributions to today’s complex power industry. By involving students in industrially relevant research, the center introduces students to cutting-edge power system technologies, analytical techniques and industry practices, and allows them to interact and build networks with industry.

The center seeks to establish sustained, quality university programs in electric power engineering and nurture a new generation of educated technical professionals in electric power.
