Effective June 1: Users with the Other Authorized User (OAU) role will be able to assist with proposal preparation in Research.gov without being required to also have another organization-approved role (e.g., "View Only" role). This change only applies to Research.gov proposals and not to proposals prepared in FastLane or Grants.gov. The OAU role change will happen automatically in the Research.gov Proposal Submission System, and no additional action is required for users who currently have the OAU role.

After this OAU role change is effective in Research.gov, the organization's Administrator can remove any unneeded user roles by following the steps below.

Removing an Organization-approved Role:

  • The organization's Administrator can remove a user role (e.g., "View Only" role) via the Administrator Dashboard by signing into Research.gov, selecting the "My Profile" link located on the top right of the screen, and selecting the "View My Users" option from the left navigation bar.
  • The Administrator can then view the "Manage User Roles" table and will click the "Manage Roles" link for the specified user located in the Action column on the right side of the table. Once the user role to be removed is selected, the Administrator clicks "Save" to complete the removal action.
  • Administrators can refer to the "View My Users - Administrator's Dashboard" section of the Account Management Guide for step-by-step instructions and screenshots.

Adding an Organization-approved OAU Role:

  • Users without the OAU role can request this role from their organization by signing into Research.gov, selecting the "My Profile" link located on the top right of the screen, and then selecting the "Add a New Role" option from the left navigation bar. After requesting the OAU role, the organization’s Administrator will receive the request electronically to approve or disapprove it.
